Mike Watt Announces New Tour Diary/Photo Book
Published Mar 12, 2012Mike Watt's resume already includes playing bass with the Minutemen, the Stooges and fIREHOSE, and he's even got three punk rock operas to his name. Clearly the dude has some stories to tell, so we're happy to report that he'll be releasing a book called On and Off Bass this May through Three Rooms Press.
This isn't a memoir, mind you. Rather, it includes his post-millennial tour diaries, meaning that it will likely cover his time in the Stooges, in addition to some of his solo endeavours.
These writings are combined with photos taken by Watt near his home in San Pedro, CA. According to a press release from the publisher, these "photographs never seem to dry: light, flight, salt, rust, and tide commingle in fiery sunrises, endless heavens, roiling waves and fog."
What's more, "Watt's writing is insightful, funny, intimate and honest, as he explores topics like John Coltrane, drunk female fans, long hauls and overcoming performance fears."
The book contains 112 colour pages and follows Watt's 2003 tome Spiels of a Minuteman, which also featured some of Watt's tour diaries. He will launch this new book with a New York show on May 2 at LePoisson Rouge (featuring J Mascis and Murph of Dinosaur Jr.) and a Los Angeles show on May 5 at Beyond Baroque.
As previously reported, fIREHOSE recently reunited and will be heading off on a North American tour. They will also be releasing a new compilation called lowFLOWs: The Columbia Anthology ('91-'93), which is due out on April 3 through Columbia/Legacy.
