Meshuggah Eye 2021 for New Album Release
"I think we have most of the material for the new album," says drummer Tomas Haake
Published Oct 08, 2020Meshuggah have yet to follow up their crushing eighth album The Violent Sleep of Reason four years removed from its release, but the Swedish outfit are making progress on a new album they're hoping to release in 2021.
Speaking with Mosh Talks for Knotfest.com, drummer Tomas Haake shared that the group have written the bulk of the material for a ninth studio LP and are eyeing a late 2021 release date. He explained how his bandmates have recently got back to work in the same room after spending time apart earlier this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"I think we have most of the material for the new album. It takes a long time for us between each album, and this time, due to COVID as well, it's gonna be longer than usual, I think," Haake said. "Right now, we're aiming at a release in late '21. Then the question mark right now is, is touring even gonna happen at that point? And if not, do you release the album or do you hold off with it and try to make money some other ways, like doing live shows on the Internet or whatever? So, yeah, it's time consuming, for sure."
