Lisa LeBlanc "Katie Cruel" on Exclaim! TV
Published Feb 23, 2015Acadian folk-rocker Lisa LeBlanc has been gaining overwhelmingly positive reviews for her 2014 EP (and debut English language recording) Highways, Heartaches and Time Well Wasted. The travel-inspired work finds LeBlanc showcasing tales of hardship and road weariness in her lyrics and further honing her confident voice. Despite having struggled through the trials and tribulations of a touring musician, LeBlanc has since found herself on the road once again, touring around Canada in support of her new EP.
During a recent stopover in Toronto, we met up with LeBlanc before her sold-out show at the Drake Underground to watch her perform a solo rendition of "Katie Cruel" from Highways, Heartaches and Time Well Wasted.
The performance exhibits LeBlanc's sharp banjo playing, thunderous voice and ability to breath new life into the traditional tale of Katie Cruel, a character made famous by American folk artist Karen Dalton in the 1970s.
