Fallstar Backdraft

Portland, OR's Fallstar cater to the exhilarating experience of a live show. Backdraft is a throwback to the post-hardcore trend of the early 2000s (Set Your Goals, Comeback Kid), relying on in-your-face anthem shouts and heavy, quick power chords. The trio stray from having any significant singles or memorable solos rise to the forefront, although the album as a whole stands against the grain within their particular genre. Rather, a collective energy shines through on each track. This spirit is dominant on "Drags, Drugs, and Bones," an ode to melodic hardcore in all the right ways. The band keep it simple, shunning technicality to allow more room for a better live show and crowd participation. Backdraft (their first release on Facedown) was engineered by Kris Crummett, whose resume includes fellow post-hardcore veterans Alesana, Dance Gavin Dance and Sleeping With Sirens. Guest vocals on "Shallow Believer" by Matty Mullins (Memphis May Fire) further solidify the band's reputation in the ever-evolving post-hardcore scene. (Facedown)
