Deadmau5 Launches House-Oriented Imprint Hau5trap
The first single from the Mau5trap sub-label comes Friday from Tommy Trash
Published Mar 01, 2021Over a decade on from its launch, deadmau5's Mau5trap will expand with the addition of a new house music-minded imprint, fittingly dubbed Hau5trap.
While today marks the sub-label's official launch, Hau5trap's first release arrives this Friday (March 4) in the form of single "Hiiigh" from Tommy Trash and Daisy Guttridge. "Hiiigh" will see the pair pay homage to late collaborator and Mau5trap artist i_o, who passed away last November.
Of Hau5trap's founding, deadmau5's longtime manager Dean Wilson told Billboard, "Late last year, one of our artists turned in a track that we absolutely loved — one of the best things they've done — but we all agreed that it was outside the Mau5trap sound. Between that, and the increasing amount of house demos we were hearing on a daily basis, we decided a sibling label was the best way to continue and expand the Mau5trap mandate of discovering and developing the next generation of electronic talent."
Wilson, who will help oversee label operations, tells the site that Hau5trap is searching for sounds that are "fun and uplifting." He notes, "Obviously it has to fit into the house world, but there's no hard edges on the criteria. We're looking for all sorts -- from newcomers all the way to seasoned producers, from all corners of the world."
In January, deadmau5 teamed with Wolfgang Gartner for new single "Channel 43," which followed collaborative 2020 singles "Pomegranate" with the Neptunes, and "Bridged by a Lightwave" with Kiesza.
