Taylor Swift and Andrew Lloyd Webber Wrote a New Original Song for 'Cats
"Beautiful Ghosts" is sung by Francesca Hayward in the film and by Swift in the end credits
Published Oct 25, 2019Taylor Swift has revealed that she co-wrote an original song for the upcoming film adaptation of Cats with the original musical's composer Andrew Lloyd Webber.
The song is called "Beautiful Ghosts," and it is sung by Francesca Hayward (who plays Victoria) in the film. An additional version of the song sung by Swift (who plays Bombalurina) is featured in the end credits of the film.
Swift, Webber and director Tom Hooper have shared a video interview in which they discuss the origins and process behind the new song.
In the clip, Swift explains that she drew influence from T.S. Eliot, who wrote Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, which the musical was based on.
"What I couldn't believe was the extraordinary beauty of these lyrics that Taylor had written," Hooper said. "It was as if someone had come into the film I was in the middle of making and … had reflected back to me a profound understanding of what we are trying to do with the movie. It was utterly thrilling."
The full song has not yet been unveiled, but you can catch a preview of it in the clip below.
Cats will arrive in theatres on December 20.
