Published Aug 17, 2020Today, the Toronto Raptors begin their championship title defence from inside the NBA bubble in Florida, and Jessie Reyez has marked the occasion with a historic national anthem performance.
To open the Raptors' first round playoff series against the Brooklyn Nets this afternoon, Reyez has performed both the Canadian and American national anthems from the CN Tower's Edgewalk — 116 stories above Toronto's downtown core.
Wearing a mask in memory of Breonna Taylor, Reyez shared a shot from her perch you can find above. If you didn't catch her sing the anthems on the basketball telecast, you can find the performance below.
Reyez recently captured the 2020 Prism Prize and had this year's Before Love Came to Kill Us land on the 2020 Polaris Music Prize short list. The year has also seen her appear on Beyoncé's visual album Black Is King.
