Published Mar 01, 2001Who are you?
Tyson Lennox, an all around nice guy.
What are you up to?
I just finished recording a CD-R demo with my aggressive rock band "The Corta Vita". I host a local radio show called "Oh No, Disaster!" every Thursday afternoon on the local campus and community radio station, CJSW. I'm working on the
Paper Wings mailorder distro (we carry fanzines, music & homemade clothes, soap, etc...) & trying to start a new (and much more restrained) musical project. I'm busy.
Hometown and current HQ:
I've lived in too many places. The most important one of all (and also my current place of residence) is a basement suite in north-eastern Calgary, Alberta.
Strawberry tea. Slow, fragile music. Those new Gap commercials that use my favourite bands as soundtracks. Kinder Surprise toys.
Mind altering work of art (not your own):
The film "Dancer in the Dark". I know it will tear apart my insides and make me cry, but I can't help going to see it over and over.
Most memorable/inspirational gig and why?
Sam Prekop & Archer Prewitt @ The Night Gallery here in Calgary. Archer played his solo stuff first, and then played backup for Sam when he came out. It took me apart. That show is also one of the
major reasons my musical taste has taken such a left turn towards the soft & fragile type.
What should everyone shut up about?
"Emo". I hate that word. It used to mean something - at least I think it did - but it's become this stupid buzzword used to define anything of any emotional value whatsoever.
Your greatest strength and weakness:
The answer to both would be my faith in people.
Your vital daily ritual:
Music. Without music in some form during the course of my day, I would probably go insane. I surround myself with the stuff.
Working at a major chain record store & loving every second.
If I wasn't playing music I would be:
Recording it. Releasing it. Listening to it. Breathing it.
Your most memorable day job:
My current one - serving up bad music to the mall-going masses.
Best/worst advice received:
"Stay in school"
I would drop everything to play a benefit for:
Campus & community radio.
What makes you want to take it off and get it on?
Soft music, scented candles & curly red hair.
What personal trait would make you kick someone out of your band? And have you?
I can't stand showboating egomaniacs. People who want all the attention or credit all the time just drive me mad.
When I think of Canada I think:
Being cold & far away from everything interesting.
Music and sex: Is there a difference? Why?
I'll save myself the embarassment of pointing out the obvious differences. As for similarities: both are capable of making me experience any range of emotions, even within short periods.
Strangest brush with celebrity:
The (c)rap-metal band Disturbed desperately wanted an interview on CJSW, and my timeslot just happened to coincide with their busy schedule. I asked them about picnics & kite flying, and followed the interview up with a song by Tiger Trap.
What does your mom wish you were doing instead? Going to school, or making heaps of money.
